Loutka mezi divadlem, filmem a televizí
Obsáhlá kniha pojednává o vedené loutce v českém filmu a televizi. O prostředcích výtvarného divadelního a filmového jazyka v oblasti loutkové inscenace, seriálu, filmu s divadelními loutkami, zejména v Československé televizi, České televizi a Krátkém filmu mezi lety 1950–2020. Chronologicky po desetiletích sleduje, jak se scénografické pojetí i filmové tvarosloví inscenací a filmů s divadelními loutkami vyrovnávalo s dobovou zkušeností divadla a poetikou filmové loutkové animace. Za jakých okolností a s kterými autory vznikal a postupně se etabloval osobitý loutkářský výtvarný televizní a filmový jazyk. Analyzuje základní tendence, které posouvaly scénografické postupy k tvořivosti a fantazii – černé divadlo, ekranizaci, masky, herce vedle loutky a další, které ve své době značně rozšířily i sám pojem loutkového divadla. Obrazová publikace přinášející stovky archivních snímků slavných loutkových pořadů od Večerníčků až po filmy Jana Švankmajera vychází v nápaditém designu Petra Babáka a Lukáše Kijonky z grafického studia Laboratoř.

Tak blízko, tak daleko. České umění 1947–1960
O českém výtvarném umění mezi léty 1947 – 1960 nebylo dosud nikdy uvažováno v širším evropském kontextu, který by se vyhnul stereotypu „železné opony“. Zároveň v pohledu na toto období se opakovaně předávají určitá klišé a stereotypy, která brání v pochopení skutečné povahy a pozice českého umění tohoto období v rámci poválečného světa. Cílem knihy je proto nabídnout nové zhodnocení českého umění této doby, které se vyhýbá stereotypu střední a východní Evropy, ale uvažuje o tomto umění jako o součásti komplikovaného poválečného vývoje celé Evropy. Poprvé se u nás syntetickou formou zaměřuje na celek české kultury v období vrcholného dogmatismu, na její oficiální a neoficiální struktury, včetně prvních let relativního politického uvolnění. Historičky umění Marie Klimešová a Hana Rousová patří k nestorkám oboru, kteří se daným obdobím zabývají většinu svého profesního života. Bez nadsázky není nikdo, kdo by tak komplikované období zpracoval do této hloubky a nutných souvislostí. Rozsáhlá publikace kolektivu autorů NFA je první ucelenou vědeckou monografií věnovanou filmům (a jejich digitalizaci) českého režiséra a kameramana, průkopníka české kinematografie Jana Kříženeckého. Ve druhé části je prezentována obsáhlá detailně okomentovaná Edice dokumentů, jež život prvních českých filmů i jejich tvůrce kontextuálně a faktograficky ukotvuje (mapa míst, kde Jan Kříženecký natáčel; časová osa života a díla; dochované hmotné objekty J. Kříženeckého aj.). Monografie obsahuje bohatou obrazovou přílohu, filmografii, bibliografii a rejstříky.

Developed in close collaboration with Converse – a brand engrained in skateboarding culture since its inception – Skateboard is packed with information and insights about the people and events that have shaped the sport, with more than 300 illustrations spanning newly studio-shot and historical images that fully capture the skateboard’s technical, makeup and structural development across time.

The Loft Law
A stunning visual journey through the last vestiges of New York City’s artist lofts
Envied by artists and apartment hunters alike for their wide windows and open floor plans, New York City’s lofts were once manufacturing centers in the late 19th and early 20th century. As urban densification pushed industry into the suburbs, these buildings were left empty. Looking for cheap rents and ideal studios, artists struck bargains with landlords to live and work in commercially zoned spaces. By the 1970s, these same artists faced eviction as their landlords embraced the new wealthy clientele that seeped into neighborhoods such as SoHo, Tribeca and the Bowery. Enacted in 1982, Article 7-C of the Multiple Dwelling Law, better known as the “Loft Law,” allowed artists to obtain legal occupancy and rent stabilization. After discovering a map of the protected buildings, documentary filmmaker Joshua Charow embarked on the ambitious project of documenting them. Over two years, he rang hundreds of doorbells, interviewing over 50 artists still living in these lofts, and photographing them in their spaces, alongside their works in progress and the unique modifications they have made to the lofts to meet legal standards. This timely untold story paints a portrait of a bygone era of New York’s downtown art scene.

Käthe Kollwitz (1867–1945) was born in the Prussian city of Königsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russia). Baron George Hoyningen-Huene (1900–1968) worked during the golden age of couture fashion and Hollywood cinema. Born in St Petersburg, his wealthy family had to flee their home during the Russian Revolution in1917. Hoyningen-Huene spent time in England before moving to Paris, where he was employed to create photographs for Vogue and Vanity Fair, and rapidly established himself as a visual innovator, fusing elements of neoclassicism and surrealism to create chic, arresting images. In 1935, Huene joined Harper’s Bazaar, where he remained a contributor until 1946, following which he settled in California and embarked on a second career as a color coordinator for Hollywood movies.
Supported by an international exhibition opening at Chanel Nexus Hall in Tokyo, this in-depth and richly illustrated book combines elegant design and production values with rigorous new research and scholarship, and includes previously unpublished work and correspondence.
